My Nickel’s Worth
I have been writing my Nickels Worth article for a year and a few months now, and I have discussed many different people in my life, including friends and family, but I have yet to write about my incredible mother.
Since I can remember, my mom has raised me to love God above all else. My mom allowed me to grow up in a household that was filled with God’s presence and God’s love. I am the person I am today in large part because of my mother and the godly example that she has set for my sister and me our entire lives. When I was a junior in high school, my aspect on life changed. My mom was in a bad car accident on Elm Street in Graham, and it made me question everything about my life and how much my mom means to me. It was a Wednesday, and I remember that day like it was yesterday--driving back from church youth group that evening and reflecting on the horrific wreck that had just occurred. I was bawling my eyes out thinking about what could have happened that day if it was not for God and His plan and protection for our lives. I have always been thankful for my family, but this put things in a very serious perspective for me at the thought that the accident could’ve turned out much worse. This changed my life forever and from then on I promised myself that I would spend as much time with my family as I possibly can for the rest of my life. My mom and I have always been close, but this event made us even closer.
My mom raised me to live for Christ everyday and in every moment. I can remember when I first went to college; I was making many decisions on my own, and I can remember that even though my mom wasn’t there, her voice was in my head about the decisions that I should make--whether to go out to eat with friends or stay home, what events to attend, and when to study. This just shows me that she raised me the right way and that throughout life, I will know how to live because of the mother she is.
My mom is selfless, intelligent, beautiful and would do anything for anybody. I will never be able to thank her enough for the example that she has shown me, but I can sure try!
I love you, Mom.
