My Nickel’s Worth
It is hard to believe that I have been the Editor of the Olney Enterprise for over one year now. Time sure does fly.
I can remember my first day as an intern at the Olney Enterprise fresh out of college, not knowing what my journey in life would be and where God would take me next. Little did I know that I would become the editor of the Olney Enterprise just three months later.
Now sitting here, more than a year removed from the beginning of this journey, I can say that I have continued to learn every day how to be the best editor/employee/co-worker I can be and have improved every step of the way. It has not always been easy, especially at the beginning. Being a “Grahamite”, I was always familiar with Olney but did not truly realize the tight-knit community that Olney was and how well everyone knows and looks out for one another.
What has made me become so comfortable in Olney is the connections that I have been able to build in the community throughout the past year. Whether it has been at the local schools in Olney and Newcastle, the businesses, the hospital for example; it has made my first year much easier and enjoyable. My opinion of Olney is much different now than it was one year ago. I see Olney now as a town that sticks together in the easy times, and in the difficult times---a town that is constantly trying to improve and make the community and the county a better place because the work doesn’t stop.
I have many people to thank for the hospitality that I have been shown and for making me feel like I have been a part of the Olney community for a lifetime, but this includes the school, Mrs. Perry and everyone involed with the Perry’s Foundation, Olney Enterprise, Olney Hamilton Hospital, Olney City Council, Young County Commissioners Court, local law enforcement and many more. I have enjoyed every second of being the Editor of the Olney Enterprise and am so excited for what year two has in store here in Olney!
