In all cities a place of amusement is an absolute essential feature and in Olney C.C. West has solved the question by the installation of two Box Ball Alleys which will become the most popular phase of amusement as soon as the people begin to realize the sport that is attached to this game. Since Mr. West has located in Olney, in 1918 he has builded for himself a reputation of conducting a place of business which is maintained on a high standard of efficiency and cleanliness. He first established his business as a billiard parlor which has since that time been abandoned and the installation of the Box Ball alleys takes the place of the billiard tables.

75 Years Ago – June 15, 1945

Sgt. Jack Roach Is Coming Home

Sgt. Cherrie M. Roach, son of Mrs. Cherrie M. Roach, North Avenue G, is coming home this week. He has been in an Army Hospital in New Mexico since April 30, 1945, when he was brought back to the States from Italy. Sgt. Roach was overseas for thirteen months. He was wounded June 28, 1944, and received the Purple Heart. After serving five years in the Army, Sgt. Roach has 91 points and may be ready for an honorable discharge. He is 25 years old.

50 Years Ago – June 18, 1970

Governor To Speak At Coachmen Dedication

Plans are in the final stages for the formal opening and dedication ceremonies of Coachmen Industries, Inc. facilities located at the Olney Municipal Airport. Ceremonies are expected to begin at 2:15 p.m., the time Governor Preston Smith and his party are to arrive at the airport from Ft. Worth. The Governor will deliver the principal address at the dedication.

25 Years Ago – June 15, 1995

Mrs. Clay Honored By Shamrock Eastern Star

30 years of devoted service as secretary of the Shamrock Chapter No. 384, Order of Eastern Star was rewarded by an annual scholarship given in the name of the secretary. The surprise presentation was made at Hamilton Hospital in Olney by eight members of the Shamrock Order of Eastern Star. The recipient is Virginia Clay, who has been in resident care at the Olney Hospital since December 1994. She is the mother of Olneyite Juda Ming. Mrs. Clay and her late husband, Harry Clay, had the Clay Funeral Home in Shamrock from 1953 until they received in 1989.
