Historian Completes Cemetery Census
Jack Loftin, chairman of the Archer County Historical Commission, has recently completed the Cemetery Census of Young County. The large spiral bound book contains the listing of more than 22,000 graves in the county and is the result of more than three years of work. Loftin, who lives on a farm near Markley in Archer County, spent the three years tracking down all the burial sites in Young County. These include some isolated graves that were marked as the final resting place of some pioneer just traveling through. He also searched the cemeteries that border Young County.
