100 YEARS AGO – JUNE 4, 1920

THE MORRIS HOTEL: The Morris Hotel is under the management of A.E. Lyle, who understands the hotel business. He is congenial having a cheery word for every individual who has occasion to stop with him and always going out of his way to render accommodations to his guests. The building which houses the hotel is two story brick structure, modern in every respect located on the principal business corner of the city.

75 YEARS AGO – JUNE 1, 1945

LEON MCCRACKEN IS GRANTED MEDICAL DISCHARGE, U.S.N.R.:Leon Mc-Cracken, Pharmacist Mate, 1-c, was granted a medical discharge from the U.S.N.R. May 15, and is now associated with the McCracken Funeral Home of Olney. McCracken enlisted January 14, 1942, at Dallas and took his “boot” training at Corpus Christi where he advanced from the rank of Hospital Attendant 1-c to Ph. M 2-c in a short while. On May 4, he went to New York on duty, and in July he was sent to San Francisco where a hospital unit was being made up.

50 YEARS AGO – JUNE 4, 1970

EAGLE HONOR COURT SET SATURDAY EVE : Twenty-four members of Boy Scout Troop 584 will be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout Saturday night during an Eagle Court of Honor. The event will begin at 8 p.m. in the Olney High School Football Stadium. The Court of Honor is expected to draw several thousand persons from Olney and throughout the Butterfield Trail District of the Longhorn Council.

25 YEARS AGO – JUNE 1, 1995

MEDLEN, HORANY GET SMU DEGREES: Two members of the Southern Methodist University graduating class have a grandparent and close family ties to Olney. Marcy Medlen, daughter of Norman and Linda Medlen of Plano, and Elisabeth Horany, daughter of Ernest and Eileen Horany of Plano, received their degrees from SMU in ceremonies May 20. Grandparents of Medlen is Lee Ada Medlen of Olney and Joyce and Jim Reid of Dallas. Horany’s grandparents include Neda Horany of Olney and Bea Oualline of Odessa, formerly of Olney.
