Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

For too long, President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have misled Congress and ignored the American people.

Under Mayorkas’ leadership, encounters at our southern border continue to climb with no relief in sight. Mayorkas’ inaction at the border and refusal to uphold his Constitutional oath to serve our nation has put American lives in jeopardy.

Because of this, I believe he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security. I am proud to have cosponsored H.Res.8 calling for the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas. It is past time we put America first and hold those who are risking the lives of Texans and Americans accountable.

Families have watched helplessly as our once-secure nation and thriving Texas communities fall victim to Biden’s failed policies. One of his first acts as President was to reverse all policies to safeguard our nation from foreign invasion, which I helped put into place along with President Trump. As a result, attempts to illegally cross the southern border have skyrocketed, climbing to record breaking levels with over 269,000 encounters in September alone.

I have long said we must secure our nation at all costs, which includes constructing a wall at our southern border, especially in Texas. I am a proud supporter of legislation to construct a border wall, including a vote in 2019 providing $1.375 billion dollars to the wall. I have also cosponsored legislation authorizing the construction of the wall called the Securing America’s Future Act of 2018, and in 2021 I cosponsored the Finish the Wall Act, to immediately resume construction which was halted by Biden.

Over the last year, 169 individuals on the U.S. terrorist watchlist have been apprehended at the southern border attempting to evade detection, and that is just who we were able to catch, who knows how many have come through undetected. To make matters worse, in April of 2023, these policies allowed for the release of a suspected terrorist into the United States. To protect Texans and our country from terrorists entering our nation, I have introduced legislation, the Border Security and Terrorism Prevention Act, which would halt immigration functions at our southern border until Secretary Mayorkas can ensure that no individuals on the terrorist watchlist are able to enter the United States. My legislation gives the Department of Homeland Security a ‘no excuses’ chance to reset their failed policies that are plaguing America.

Congress cannot afford to miss another opportunity to secure our border and hold these rouge government officials like Secretary Mayorkas accountable. We must restore law and order and secure our nation.
