Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor and Olney Community, I am writing to you as a proud member of the American Legion, an organization that has been a cornerstone of our community for generations. I would like to take this opportunity to dispel some misconceptions and shed light on the true nature and mission of our Legion.

The American Legion of today is not just your grandfather’s Legion. While we honor our history and the traditions that have been passed down, we are not merely a social club or a bar. We are a vibrant, active organization dedicated to serving our community and fostering the development of our youth.

Our Legion is committed to making our town a better place. We organize and participate in numerous community service projects, from cleaning up local parks to hosting educational workshops for young people. We believe in the power of collective action and the importance of civic responsibility.

Moreover, we offer a variety of events open to everyone in the community. These events range from family-friendly picnics to pancake breakfasts and Boy’s and Girl’s State scholarships, all aimed at fostering a sense of community and mutual support. However, the success of these events and, by extension, the success of our mission, relies heavily on community participation.

We understand that everyone leads busy lives, but we urge our fellow community members to take some time to attend these events. Not only will you have a great time, but you will also be contributing to the betterment of our town.

The American Legion is more than just a building or a group of people; it is a symbol of community spirit and resilience. But we cannot do it alone. We need the support of the community to continue our work and to thrive.

We invite everyone to join us, to see for themselves the American Legion’s positive impact on our community. Together, we can ensure that the American Legion remains a beacon of hope and support for generations to come.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Brenda Nurre Olney, Texas
