House of Mercy’s 3rd Annual Gala

The House of Mercy (H.O.M.E) hosted its third annual Gala Friday, Sept. 25, at The Olney Civic Center.

Residents, graduates and staff of the House of Mercy joined together to spend an evening serving the community and showing what H.O.M.E. can do. Tammy Becerra and other residents served a meal comprised of brisket, chicken, cornbread, beans, cobbler and all the fixings.

Chance Crow, son of John Crow and nephew to Preston Crow, played the guitar and sang with his wife, Shara, who played the keyboard. Intermittently residents and graduates of the House of Mercy went on stage and gave their personal testimonies on how God and H.O.M.E. changed their lives.

One of the attendees, Chief Birbeck, was inspired by the events that night.

“I personally thought it was very inspirational to be a part of the Gala. We got to hear peoples testimonies on success overcoming their addiction and it energized me to know that what they’re [H.O.M.E.] doing is a great service to the community,” said Birbeck.

Many dignitaries came out to show their support including Neal Welch, City Administrator, and his wife, Jana.

Preston Crow, program director, spoke on how a day at the H.O.M.E. typically runs with the evening ending with Gary Salzman and Nancy Bowden (graduates) announcing the silent auction winners.
