FUMC Brings Community Christmas Celebration to the Drive-In

How do you bring a Christmas message of hope and joy to the chaos of 2020?

The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church of Graham’s solution is a Christmas Celebration at the Drive-In “All Is Well (The King Is in Residence)”, Saturday, December 12th and Sunday, December 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Graham Drive-In on Fourth Street.

The free Christmas-community event will open gates at 5:45 p.m. each night to begin parking and open for the free popcorn. People can bring their own drinks. Concessions will be open from 5:45-6:30 p.m.

“If there is a time to remind our community that no matter what is going on, no matter what is open or closed, all is well because Jesus is in residence and is with us. It is the reason, the only reason we can say all is well in 2020! Our faith is in the One who sits on the throne not our circumstance,” said Christa Friel, FUMC Music Director.

The FUMC choir, which has traditionally been the musical lead in past Christmas cantatas, will serve as the support to bring this drive-in event into being. Friel said, “We could not ever think of doing this without the leadership of our music ministry. We also have involvement of community musicians that truly make this a community event!”

The celebration will include ensembles, soloists, chamber orchestra, band, live story telling, and nativity, as well as media to bring the joy of the season and to tell the story of the birth of Jesus. The shofar, an instrument used in ancient times for the coronation of kings will be featured in the Christmas presentation. It will be blown to declare Jesus is King and to speak peace to our community.

An “only at the drive-in event” will include a car-honking choir that will lead in a “Name That Tune” contest and door prizes for the audience. There will be live animals and a live nativity for the audience as they leave.

“We encourage the community to join in the celebration. Fill your cars with family and neighbors! Everyone can remain safely distanced while staying in their cars experiencing the message of hope that Christmas brings,” Friel said.

Designed for the whole family, there will Christmas video games and festive music to begin the celebration as the Christmas story unfolds.

The Graham Drive-In is located at 1519 4th St., Graham, TX 76450
