DEVOTIONAL

What a humbling thought it is for God’s chosen people to truly understand the infinite love of the Lord. A love that is so immeasurable and boundless that it stretches across all of eternity. A love so vast and limitless in which God Himself would interrupt human history to show merciful kindness to sinners by coming in the person of Jesus Christ. The author of the book of Hebrews tells us, “He had to be made like His brethren in all things, being fully human in every way that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, so that He may satisfy the wrath of God for the sins of the people.”

Jesus Christ, being fully God and fully man, took the sins of the world upon Himself at the cross. It is there that the wrath of Almighty God was poured out upon Him, crushing Him under the penalty of the sin until His body became lifeless, fulfilling the scripture written by the Psalmist, “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws, and You lay me in the dust of death.” Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb of God, died the death for everyone who comes to Him in faith and repentance giving them eternal life. As it is written in the book of Romans, “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.

But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

As believers, let us ponder this thought for just a moment, let us think of it on an individual basis. The scriptures tell us that we were loved from eternity past that from the foundations of the world the Lord knew us and loved us. His divine love for us shattered the hardness of our heart; He exerted His holy influence upon our soul, He turned us to see His only begotten Son hanging on the cross covered in blood, sweat, tears and in the spittle of His creation. He opened the eyes of our heart that we may see His redemptive love, causing us to yield to His holy law, bowing before Him calling Him Lord. O, the unparalleled love of the majesty of God, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
