Can you believe how fast December made its appearance this year? Children, old and young, will be looking forward to the coming of Saint Nick and all the traditions of the holiday season. Decorations of lights and yard decor started up even before Thanksgiving! Let the hanging of tinsel and lights begin! There is such pleasure in watching a child’s eyes light up in anticipation of things to come as gifts begin appearing beneath the twinkling, ornament bedecked Christmas trees.

The directors here at the Center have put up a big tree to greet the lunch crowd with a bit of holiday cheer. Come enjoy the food and fellowship mixed with a dab of good humor and affection. Life is good! Surround yourself with all the comforts and happiness of the season and spread your own brand of cheer with a huge smile plastered across your face.

Well, how many of you braved the chilly night to witness the partial lunar eclipse? As an inquisitive person that I am, I did indeed go outside to witness the event and enjoy the view from my warm vehicle. Eclipses have a fascination all their own and I’ve always tried to share such occasions with my boys when they were young. Solar eclipse time required only a piece of paper with a tiny hole in it to produce that shadow of the sun being swallowed up. Such natural occurrences such as comets, meteor showers, and eclipses are ideal learning experiences and may open the door for greater insight into the wonder and appreciation of this planet we call home.

What do you know about Texas? How did our big, wonderful state come to be? If you’ve been to Six Flags, then you probably know that Texas has been ruled under six entities, thus the six flags that have flown in our state. Those flags represent Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, United States and Confederate States of America.

Texas has also had six different sites for its capital.

Washington -on-the-Brazos, Harrisburg, Velasco, Columbia, Houston and Austin.

More about Texas history at a later date. Moses Austin, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, and others are on tap for more insight on this friendly state.

Share a meal with a friend this week and keep smiling.
