As per Texas weather tradition, Olney got to enjoy another arctic blast just as I was beginning to think we were clear of winter. Have I mentioned I hate winter, I hate winter! More accurately, I hate cold weather. There are some things I enjoy about winter. I don’t mind a snowy day or two as long as there is plenty of hot coffee waiting and a warm space heater for my tootsies! Ha Ha!

Other things I enjoy, cooking stews and using the oven as often as possible, Texas summers are no place for hot ovens! I like my food on the spicy side so if you show up for dinner you most likely going to enjoy a spicy Mexican stew like pork pozole, pinto beans with fresh jalapenos & Mexican cornbread, pot roast and stew is a sure thing and plenty of roast chickens with tators, carrots, whole jalapenos [have a mentioned I love spicy food] and I enjoy zucchini when roasting chickens. Hot cocoa is always welcomed and on some cold nights after a long day a hot toddy is just what is needed to comfort the soul and bring sleep quickly.

What are some of your favorite foods during winter? What I enjoy most though is looking at everyone’s Facebook post and memories of all their exciting escapades and adventures that can only be had on snowy days. There is something truly wonderful seeing the excitement of children making snowmen or sledding excitedly down a steep snowy hill. I have always thought you can see God’s love in the smiling face of children. Another favorite thing is cozying up on the couch or getting under 2 or 3 blankets on the bed and pulling my 2 pups, Daisy May and Burt, in close for snuggling while watching movies and enjoy popcorn with hot cocoa and yes my pups are both very good doggies and get plenty of popcorn and other treats, my saying is if I eat, they eat.

Meaning if I am having a treat they will be having a treat as well. What are some movies or series you enjoy watching while all snuggled up under blankets on a cold windy night?

My go to shows and movies are most likely movies from the 80’s or 50’s or a really good series to binge like Dexter or maybe Game of Thrones, there are too many to list. I sit now in my recliner now, heating a blanket covering my lap and feet, cup of hot cocoa to my right, some 50’s sci-fi movie playing in the background as a gradually nodding off thinking of the warmer days of summer. Have I told yah I hate cold weather?
