Olney Senior Cub Center

Brrr! That cold windy blast of frostiness that blew through last week got our attention for sure! Warm hats, woolen scarves, and earmuffs came back into use. Many braved the elements and snuggled in at the Center for warm food and warm conversations. We might need to get our rain gear ready since we have a prospect for rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

Happy December, everybody! The twinkly lights are going up and yard decorations are popping up all over town to our delight! The radio is playing jolly holly holiday songs nudging us to sing along to the catchy tunes. Seems like there are smiley faces everywhere we look. ‘Tis a happy month indeed with the expectation of the arrival of St. Nick himself, loaded down with presents galore and treats for those stockings hung with great care. Three people from the Center have birthdays during December, so wish them a happy birthday as well as a Merry Christmas! Linda Gray will celebrate her birthday on Tuesday the 7th, Wendell Flanders will add another year on the 12th, and Angela Lockard closes out the month, since her birthday falls on the 30th. Happy, Happy Birthday to these wonderful folks!

Living in a small town like Olney is great. There are nice, helpful people everywhere!

Our pharmacy gals gladly deliver our medicines to us, whether in store, our car parked our front, or to our door at home. Thank you for those bright smiles that seem to boost the effectiveness of said meds. You are appreciated more than you know.

And how about those folks at the grocery store? They will open the door for you and say a friendly,”Hello,” as you enter the door. Those smiles and, “Have a blessed day,” comments are so welcome! Thanks to all of you for your caring spirits!

It seems that as we get older and older, we have more and more doctors to see. We are lucky to have good doctors and nurses here in our quaint little homey town. Thank all of you at Olney Hamilton Hospital for taking good care of us with such efficiency and such compassionate hearts. We couldn’t ask for any better care. Thank you!

The Volunteer Fire Department is selling raffle tickets to raise money for equipment, and is also accepting new toys to make sure every child has something under the tree at Christmas time. If you can’t shop yourself, a monetary gift will allow them to purchase a gift for you. Let’s help this firefighter group bring cheer and put smiles on children’s faces. They do so much to ensure our safety and well-being, let’s join with them to bring joy at Christmas time.

Do neighbor checks to make sure they are doing well, especially in cold weather. Whether you call or knock on their door, please help your fellow man. Kindness is contagious -- let’s infect the whole town!
