The 22th annual Olney March for Jesus is coming once again, and churches and individuals from Olney and surrounding areas are invited to participate and enjoy a day of fun, fellowship, food and worship together.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, with the March for Jesus parade. Line-up begins at 9 a.m. at Tommy Perkins Memorial Park in Olney. The March will move from the park to Main Street, then west to Avenue J (for Jesus). Participants will then turn south of Avenue H and then march back down Hamilton Street to Tommy Perkin’s Park.

A program of live music and a time of worship will be held at the park after the march beginning at 11 a.m. The Hope Fellowship Worship Team and Friends will lead a time of praise and worship. Mickey Pesqueda, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Archer City, will share his testimony and preach. A free meal will be served following the program. Drawings and giveaways for children and adults will take place during the meal.

“We are changing the March for Jesus because of the COVID situation,” said organizer Verma Fobbs, adding that the event will be reminiscent of the early days of the march when it was held outdoors at the park. “Hopefully, this will make it easier for everyone to make the March a part of their day without having concerns about COVID,” Fobbs, said. Fobbs is inviting everybody to come out and take a stand for the Lord, especially in these times.

Organizers of the March for Jesus believe that this event is an important event in the life of Olney each year because it faithfully presents the good news of Jesus Christ to the community, but it also extra important this year because of all the unrest we see in the streets. This will be a peaceful gathering, not to protest, but to proclaim how good it is when brothers and sisters dwell in unity. That is one of the most beautiful things about Olney. The love we have for one another.

T-Shirts can be pre-purchased for the event online and will arrive a few days before the march. No shirts will be sold at the event. Please go the fbcolney.com website to find the link to order. The last day to order a shirt is Sept. 22.

“My children are getting older, but they all still love to march for Jesus every year,” said Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church. “They love to join in the March with people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds. This is the sort of thing that has a lasting impact on their spiritual formation and their character. It is one of the more memorable things about our community,” Edgington added.
