“Texans don’t like to be told what to do...really?”

Several of the responses I received about the article I wrote last week went something like this: “This is Texas, I am Texan, and I don’t want the government telling me what to do.” Well, who does want the government bossing them around, especially about personal matters? I never want to come across like I am standing on a soapbox and telling you how to live your life. That is not my job, and that would take too much effort. My goal is simple, to stimulate thought and perhaps a paradigm shift--on a good day.

So, here’s what I think about you not wanting the government to tell you what to do regarding pandemic precautions such as social distancing and hand-washing. The government tells you that you must wear a seat belt, and you do it. The government tells you to place your small child in a car seat, and you do it. The government tells you to buy auto insurance or else, and you do it.

The government tells you to have only one legal spouse, and in most cases, you do it. Perhaps Texans don’t like to be told what to do, but most of the time, you do what you’re told at the end of the day.
