This was taken during a summer trip to Kentucky. As we explored the river, we found a local swimming area that had graffiti covering the river walls. It was fun to read all the messages people left after we took the plunge into the chilly waters for a swe

Summer has always been my favorite season and now that season is rapidly coming to an end. I don’t mind so much because with the end of summer brings high school football under those Friday Night Lights, and this season looks to be a hopeful one with the Cub football staff being full of new, talented coaches and to top the good news off – the head football coach is a local come home.

I have added some photos of some of my favorite reasons or things I love about summer. One activity is camping, for me that takes place early summer or late summer if the temperature is below 100 degrees.

There is nothing as regenerative and recharging as going camping for a weekend or a week. I would suggest leaving the phone off and in the glovebox for the full effect of unplugging from society and work.

I love that first plunge into the lake or river that I choose to camp at followed by some cold cut sandwiches, chips and a cold beer or tea. The best part though will always be the late-night campfire sessions with the ones you choose to unplug with: there will be stories, light gossip maybe, cold brews or wine, of course ‘smores and the big bright stars of the Texas night sky.

Next up is fishing. Fishing can be done year-round but for me, I enjoy fishing in summer most. A comfy camping chair, a nice shade tree and a cooler of cold beverages and sandwiches is the best way to fish. It’s fun to fly around the lake in a bass boat but it’s no way to properly relax and fish. All that bouncing around in a boat makes it impossible to sleep. Ha-Ha.

A secret, just between you and me, I usually don’t care if I catch anything. For me, it’s all about disconnecting and relaxing; if I happen to catch dinner that is ok as well.

The final thing I love about summer, although there are many more I could think about, is swimming. I am not talking about sitting around a pool with the occasional dip in the water. For me, swimming is most fun in a lake, river or pond.

When I was younger, all I needed was maybe a towel. As an adult, I have learned it’s much more enjoyable with a shade tent, camping chairs and a cooler for cold drinks and snacks.

What are some of your favorite things to do in summer?
