Bob graduated from Olney High School in 1950. He joined the Navy shortly thereafter, in 1952, where he was stationed on the USS Jason, based out of Honolulu, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, the love of his life, Odessa Sipes, flew there to meet him and they were married July 5, 1953.

Discharged from the Navy in 1956, the couple moved back to Olney where Bob attended Midwestern State University and earned a B.A. in business administration. After completing university, Bob worked for National Supply until 1965 when he moved his family to Weatherford, where he opened Gibson's Discount Center. It was in 1970 that Bob began his ranching career. While expanding his two careers, Bob found time to become a member of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse, a member of the WISD School Board, where he served three terms as president. He also served as a deacon for First Baptist Church, Weatherford.

Bob's first wife, Odessa, passed away in 1998. In 1999, he married longtime friend from Olney, Glenda Butts.

Survivors: Bob is survived by his wife, Glenda; her daughter, Terry Thomas (Joel) and granddaughter, Valerye; his son, Jeff Perkins (Marie) and grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, Belvy, Judencie and Biverlie; sister-in-law, Clois Osborn; brother-in-law, Larry Sipes (Kate); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
