Phillip Campbell
Phillip Campbell, father, brother, and loving husband of Patsy Campbell, passed away on July 3, 2024, at the age of 82 in Abilene, Texas. He was born on November 6, 1941 in Graham, Texas to Cleo and Sylvia Campbell, of Olney, Texas. With a love of sports and a strong love for his family, Phillip was a devoted husband to his wife Patsy Campbell of Abilene, Texas for 59 years. He was also a proud father to his 2 sons; Mike Campbell and wife Nora Campbell of Abilene, Texas and Chad Campbell and wife Amy Lepard Campbell of Colleyville, Texas. Phillip instilled in his children the values of love, perseverance, and resilience that guided them into the hard working and loving men they are today. Phillip loved fishing, playing golf and watching his beloved Yankees. He never missed an opportunity to enjoy his hobbies with his wife and children and also supported them in their many sporting events throughout the course of their childhood and even into their profession careers of sports. Phillip will continue to be the supportive and strong presence guiding Patsy, Mike and Chad throughout their years. Phillip, also known as Papa, was a loving and proud grandfather to his five grandchildren; Grayson Jay Campbell (16), Dax Phillip Campbell (15), Cannon Monroe Campbell (14), and Dodge David Campbell (10) of Colleyville, Texas. Phillip had one precious granddaughter, Peyton Patsy Campbell (10) of Abilene, Texas. He enjoyed watching and supporting their sports and loved talking football and baseball. Papa would quiz them on their sports knowledge and was proud that his grandkids followed his passion for the Yankees. With a strong handshake and soft voice, his last words to his grandkids were to “stay with the Lord”. Those words are the truest and most important words they will ever hear from their Papa.
Phillip’s quiet yet unconditional love extended beyond his immediate family; his brother who preceded him in death, Steven Campbell, and his nephews; Steve Olen Campbell and Richie Campbell. Phillip and Patsy embraced all of their relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Phillip Campbell was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized when he was 12 years old and attended Hamilton Street Church of Christ in Olney, Texas with his parents. He wanted to ensure that his sons and family members shared in his faith, so they could all be together again in eternity. In his last days, Phillip was surrounded by his family to share stories of love and gratitude and to gather one last time in prayer to praise God for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for the great man that God chose to lead the Campbell family in unwavering faith and unity.
May the prayers and thoughts of Phillip Cleo Campbell bring all hearts comfort knowing that now he has gone to prepare a place for his family. May his life be an inspiration to give strength for today and hope for tomorrow.
