Obituary: Roy Dean Whitmire

Roy Dean Whitmire, age 81, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in Wichita Falls.

Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Restland Cemetery in Olney with Rayden Whitmire, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Roy was born on April 28, 1939 in Fulsom, Oklahoma to the late H.C. (Bud) Whitmire and Ellen (Jones) Whitmire. He graduated from Centralvue High School in Oklahoma in 1958 and from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls in 1965. He continued his education and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1969 with his Master’s Degree in Math and Science. He married Betty Ann Yates on August 31, 1959 in Wellington, Texas and they moved to Olney in 1965 from Wichita Falls. Roy taught mathematics at the Wichita Falls ISD for three years and at Olney ISD for thirty years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and reading books on his iPad. He also enjoyed taking care of his cat “Pepper” and playing his steel guitar.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Glenn Alan Whitmire on May 17, 1988; three brothers, J.B. Whitmire, Toy Whitmire and Ray Whitmire; and one sister, Dorothy Whitmire.

Roy is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Whitmire of Olney; one son, Randy Whitmire of Olney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
