Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Abbott

Mary Elizabeth (Owens) Abbott, at the age of 94, passed away at her home with her daughters by her side to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2020.

Elizabeth was born December 25, 1925 to the late Griffin (Doc) and Lona Owens in Brownfield, Texas. She grew up on the family farm near Elbert, Texas and graduated from Throckmorton High School and attended beauty school in Houston, Texas.

Elizabeth married James W. (Dub) Abbott on March 1, 1947 and they made their home in Olney for 66 years until his death on February 10, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her late parents, her husband, James (Dub) Abbott, two sisters, Lena Stowe and Juanita Corley, one brother, Woodrow Owens and sonin-law, Rex Ridenour.

Elizabeth was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she attended faithfully and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was a beautician in Olney for many years and had worked for Haggar Slacks Co. and Hamilton Hospital.

She was a homemaker who loved to sew and cook. She enjoyed traveling, working in the yard and garden and taking her daily walks. Elizabeth looked forward to planning and attending the annual Owens Family Reunions. She loved her family very much and spending time with them.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Annelia Ridenour of Archer City and Teresa Middaugh and husband W. D. of Olney; Grandsons: Brent Middaugh and Laura Willett of Lago Vista, Texas, Eric Middaugh and Chelsey Acuna of Olney, Kevin Ridenour and wife Ashley of Archer City, and Matt Ridenour and wife Ashley of Denton; Great Grandchildren: Zerah and Landri Ridenour of Archer City and Tucker Middaugh of Olney; Sister-in-law, Charlene Orem of Columbia Falls, Montana and Brotherin-law, Don Abbott of Arlington, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Lunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Southside Baptist Church in Olney, with Andy Graham, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
