Obituary: Mary Darilek

Mary (Kreiter) Darilek was born January 7, 1934 in Wichita Falls, Texas, and passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Decatur, Texas. Services will be 10:30 am, Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bridgeport, Texas, with Father Prakash Diaz officiating. Interment will be in Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas.

Services held under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Darilek, parents William and Jettie (Tucker) Kreiter, and a sister, Billie (Kreiter) Waggoner.

Mary is survived by son Stephen Darilek and wife Derinda of Bridgeport; grandson Landon Darilek and wife Alycia of Bridgeport; granddaughter Denea Griggs and husband Jake of Bridgeport; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Lancaster and husband James; sister-in-law Mary Hrncirik and husband Joe of Seymour, Texas.

Mary was employed as a correctional officer for the State of Texas for many years, and before that worked in physicians’ offices for many years.

She was a very active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She served as president of her auxiliary, Hamilton 4148 for many terms, District 29 president for four terms, and as Department of Texas Hospital Chairman. She won many awards including Outstanding Auxiliary President, Outstanding District President, and won the National Plate for Outstanding Department Hospital Chairman in 2001-02. She served as Department Assistant Conductress, Color Bearer, and Banner Bearer.

Before moving to Bridgeport, she was an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister and Bereavement Chairman for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Gatesville, Texas. She was an active member of St. Johns Catholic Church Ladies Group in Bridgeport.
