Obituary: Glenda Gay Harmon Whiteley

Glenda Gay Harmon Whiteley, age 87, of Olney, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Restland Cemetery with Michael Cyr, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Glenda was born on September 24, 1932 in Padgett, Texas to the late Jessie Glen Robinson and Felcie Gaynell (Gaw) Robinson. She was a great athlete at Newcastle High School where she excelled in basketball and volleyball and she received the letter “N” award. She graduated Cum Laude from Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas in 1978. She then furthered her studies at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Glenda married Bobby Gene Harmon on July 24, 1950 in Newcastle. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2000. She later married Wallace Whiteley and he preceded her in death. Before her retirement, Glenda worked as an Educational Administrator at Butler County Community College. She moved to Olney in 1988 from Potwin, Kansas. Glenda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle and she belonged to the Texas Democratic Women. She volunteered with the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary and at the voting booths in Graham. Glenda enjoyed gardening, she was a wonderful cook and loved cats. She was a caregiver to her family members and truly enjoyed spending time with her family.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Bobby Gene Harmon and Wallace Whiteley; a daughter, Carol Anise Reed; and a granddaughter, Michelle Elaine Williams.

Survivors include her two daughters, Diana Maureen Henderson of Wichita Falls, Texas and Melanie Jan Harmon of Rossville, Georgia; four grandchildren, David Wall, Lara Henderson, Curtis Daniels, and Matthew Lewis; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
