Cheryl was one of first three girls to achieve the high honor of Eagle Scout status many years before girls were welcomed into the Boy Scouts of America organization.

After college, Cheryl became executive assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Texas Instruments in Dallas. In Wichita Falls, Cheryl worked for The Episcopal Junior and Senior High School, as well as the Junior League of Wichita Falls. She later joined what would become her work family, AT&T, which was her occupation for much of her adult life.

Cheryl’s many friends and family will remember her for her kindness, her compassion, and her loving spirit. Everyone who knew Cheryl said she was the sweetest person they had ever met. She was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic reader, and loved spending time in nature – but what she loved most was spending time with her daughter, Jane.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her daughter, Alexandra York Soneson, her sister, Kelly Jane York, and her father, Jim York. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lake Soneson, her mother, Irene Frances York, sisters Marina Lynn Jones and husband Dr. Randy Jones, and Cathy Irene Scott; nieces Rikki Hilbers and her husband Skyler of Archer City, Chelsea Jones of Asheville, North Carolina, and nephew Dylan Scott of Wichita Falls. Cheryl was also a loving great-aunt to Wes, Mason, Hayden, Caitlyn, Parker, and Berkli Hilbers.
