Obituary: Carol Jean Rhodes

Carol Jean Rhodes, age 77, died Monday, September 28, 2020 at her home in Loving, Texas. Family visitation will be on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Andy Graham, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church of Olney. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Carol was born on September 10, 1943 in Olney, Texas to the late Harry P. Lambert and Ida Clarice (Carr) Lambert. After graduating from Olney High School, she enrolled in the nursing program at Vernon Regional Junior College. She graduated with high honors and received her Associate Degree in Nursing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Hamilton Hospital for many years and was the charge nurse at Olney Healthcare. Carol was also a home health nurse for the surrounding communities. She was a lifetime resident of Olney and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She married Garry Rhodes on February 4, 1972. She liked to ride motorcycles, enjoyed crocheting and crafts, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Graham Promenaders and loved to square dance. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Floyd Smith, Sr. and a sister, Sharon Keathley.

Survivors include her husband, Garry Rhodes of Loving, Texas; two sons, Kennith James Shepard and wife Misty of Saginaw, Texas and Lonny Ray Hope of Olney, Texas; one brother, Floyd Smith, Jr. and wife Mary of Lindsay, Texas; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
