Obituary: Allen Emmons

Allen R. Emmons, MMC, United States Navy, Retired, age 81, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Lunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2021, at First Baptist Church, with Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Allen was born August 21, 1939, in Electra, Texas, to the late Charles Ray Emmons and Lila Mae (Pardue) Emmons. He graduated from Graham High School in 1957. Allen served his country proudly in the United States Navy and retired after twenty-four years as a Machinist’s Mate Chief Petty Officer. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Award (Fourth) and Humanitarian Service Medal. Allen married Mabel Moore on April 5, 1969, in Juarez, Mexico. Allen moved to Olney in 2000 from San Benito, Texas, and attended First Baptist Church. He received his BSE degree in Education from Midwestern State University in 1989 and taught special education in Texas for several years. He then worked for CPS/APS until his retirement in 2011. Allen was a past commander of VFW Post 8567 in Graham and a member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge in Wichita Falls. Allen loved to go fishing, shooting, and liked reading about archeol ogy and history.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel Moore Emmons on November 10, 2017; one brother, Norman Emmons; and one grandson, Charles Leon Moore.

Survivors include five daughters: Dr. Constance Moore and husband Dan Gillis of Arrey, New Mexico; Cynthia Moore-Love and husband William of Houston, Texas; Lila Mabel McCutcheon and husband Douglas of Olney, Texas; Deanna Emmons and Laura Emmons both of Alameda, California; one son, Sean Christian Emmons and wife Rebekah of Olney, Texas; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
