Dorothy M. Matus
Dorothy M. Matus, 92, of Wichita Falls since 2013, formerly of Megargel and Olney, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024.
A visitation will be held at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney at 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024. On Friday, August 23, 2024 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Megargel, the Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass service at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Megargel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
A daughter of the late Lillian J. (Brom) and John Simek, Dorothy was born on March 24, 1932, in Megargel. Dorothy graduated from North Texas State College with a degree in Business Administration. Dorothy married Charlie Matus on September 21, 1953. She raised seven children after Charlie passed away in April 1980 and continued to operate the family farm. Dorothy was a strong, independent, quiet woman with a sweet, kind temperament. She loved gardening, her flowerbeds, sewing, crossword puzzles, and her church. She went on several trips with her children – Disneyland, California, rafting on Guadalupe River, Colorado, Florida, Grand Canyon, Branson, and Caribbean cruise. She was involved with her grandkids’ sports and cut out newspaper clippings about them! She was an excellent baker of apple strudel, Italian Crème cake and peach cobbler.
Along with her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her infant brother, John Simek Jr. and her husband Charlie J Matus.
She is survived by her seven children - Debbie and Terry Symank, and John Matus of Megargel TX, Sharon and Steve Hulcy of Wichita Falls, TX, Carol and Denis Casey of Mcloud, OK, Pam and Brian Walker of Sherman, TX, Michael and Peggy Matus of Archer City, TX, and Sandra and Ron Sanborn of Olney, TX. Dorothy’s grandchildren - Chris Symank, Trey and John Matus Jr., Jennifer Hulcy Ojeda, Jake Crawford, Kayla Crawford and Amber Crawford Vera, Rachael Kincy Garnett, Nikki Kincy and Casey Kincy, Miranda Matus Gilbert, Courtney Matus Janoe, Justin Matus, Devin Stephens, Shelby and Samantha Sanborn. Dorothy is blessed with twenty-four great grandchildren and another one on the way!
