In Loving Memory of Johnnie Dell (Dunagan) Cuba

September 10, 1931 – Johnnie Dell Cuba passed away on December 14, 2025 at the age of 94 while on Hospice Care at EZ Years Retirement Living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnnie was a loving wife, mother, aunt, bonus grandparent, and friend, whose smile and laugh lit up a room. Her love and kindness were overwhelming, and she always prioritized everyone else’s needs over her own. She was admired by many for her intelligence, computer skills well into her 90s, love of God, and true Southern hospitality.

Born on September 10, 1931 to Roy and Ida (Smallwood) Dunagan in Olney, Texas, Johnnie was the youngest of six children who grew up on the family farm. Being 10 years younger than her next oldest sibling, instilled strength and toughness, which enhanced her beauty. She married Johnnie Wesley Cuba on January 10, 1953. They started their life together in Archer City, Texas and were known by their friends as “He-Johnnie” and “She-Johnnie.”

her only daughter, Kaye Cuba and her loving partner, Brian Towers, who was like a son to her, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Frances Quinlan (Pete), Georgia Hall, and one brotherin- law, Henry Cuba, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their “Aunt John or Aunt Johnnie Dell.”

Johnnie’s love extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of their dear friends and former neighbors who became family, Georgianna Greenway and Rodney (who preceded her in death) and their children, Brad Greenway and Kimberly Greenway Box (Brandon). She loved them all so much and cherished every minute she was able to spend with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters – Nedra Triplett and Laneta Cole Gove (special brother-in-law – O’Dell Cole); and three brothers – Grady Dunagan, Laval Dunagan and Raymond Dunagan.

Johnnie Dell graduated from Olney High School in 1949, where she was crowned Football Sweetheart her senior year. She began a career in insurance, working in Olney for many years for the Olney Insurance Agency and Atchley Insurance Agency. She became well-versed in Medicare, while working for several physicians as Office Manager at the Olney Clinic for almost 20 years until her retirement in the late 90s. While in Archer City, she was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Volunteer Fire Department and was always supporting Kaye’s activities. She was also a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Altar Society for many years.

In 2004, the Johnnies moved to Las Vegas, to be near Kaye and Brian. She enjoyed visits to the casino and dinner outings with their friends. She missed Texas but loved being close to Kaye and their daily chats. She always enjoyed when relatives and friends came to town, appreciating the efforts made to visit them.

Sadly, Johnnie Dell, started to decline immediately after Johnnie went to his heavenly home in June 2025, and she passed away on December 14, 2025, notably her parent’s wedding anniversary. A joint graveside service to honor Johnnie Dell and Johnnie’s life will be held on April 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Megargel Cemetery Pavilion, followed by a Celebration of Life Dinner at Noon at The Royal Theater at 113 East Main Street, Archer City, Texas.
