LeRoy Upham, 90, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2016, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas with Andy Graham, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

LeRoy was born on November 27, 1925 in San Bernardino, California to the late Charles E. and Ida G. (Medlock) Upham. He graduated from High School in Winslow, Arizona in 1943. He finished Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois as a Watchmaker in 1948. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S Santa Fe during World War II from 1943-1946. LeRoy moved to Olney in 1949 from Haskell and married Merle Jean Vaught on August 9, 1951 in Electra. He was owner and operator of LeRoy’s Jewelry from 1949 to 1978, and he farmed 1200 acres near Olney. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 66 years. LeRoy was active in the community by working with Little League and serving as a member of the Olney Lions Club. He was awarded the Citizen of the Year in 1967 for his efforts in revitalizing a large portion of downtown Olney after a large fire in 1965. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Louise Upham in 1948, a brother, Charles Upham in 1999, and his son, Larry Upham in 2002.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Merle Jean Upham of Olney; his son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Robyn Upham of Las Vegas, Nevada; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Crow of Cataula, Georgia; two granddaughters: Connie O’Neal and husband Robbie of Georgia, Laura Upham of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandsons: Kevin Crow and wife Jordana of Atlanta, Georgia, Shawn Crow and wife Cynthia of Georgia, Layne Upham and wife Valerie of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lance Upham and Justina of Denver, Colorado, Levi Upham and wife Monica of Visalia, California; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
