Jim was born on August 17, 1930, in Archer County to the late John and Rose (Darilek) Cuba. He graduated from Megargel High School in 1948 and was a lifelong resident of the Megargel and Olney area. He married Dorothy Thoele on July 16, 1951, in Seymour, Texas, they shared nearly 70 happy years before she preceded him in death in August of 2019. Jim was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Megargel. Jim served for several years as a member of both the School Board and the City Council in Megargel. He also served on various committees with the Archer County Soil and Conservation Office. Jim was a good and kind husband, dad, granddad, and great-granddad. He was a man of integrity, compassion, and honesty. The most important thing in his life was his deep devotion to God. The highlights of his life were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jim loved the land and was so at peace with the simple things of life, like a good soaking rain, tending to his cattle, and appreciated seeing a good patch of wheat in the fields.

Jim is survived by his three children and their spouses: Cyndi and Richard Boone of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mike and Milea Cuba of Holliday, Texas, and Cathi and Howard Patterson of Tyler, Texas; his siblings: Mary Musil, Georgia Hall, Fran Quinlan, Johnnie Cuba, Henry Cuba and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandchildren: Mark and Melissa Cuba, Mary Cuba, Mike Boone, Audra Boone, Ethan and Jori Martin, Kenzie Patterson, and Coleman and Claire Patterson, and his great-grandchildren: Avery, Mila, and Ellie Cuba, Hadley, Laken, and Hayes Martin, Davis and Dustin Wingo, and soon-to-be Holcomb Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy Cuba, his brothers, O.J. Cuba, Stan Cuba, and Joe Cuba, and his sisters: Rose Cuba, Angeline Hajek, and Lydia Cuba.
