Hershel Reed

Hershel Reed went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, November 14, 2016 at the age of 82. Hershel was born January 8, 1934 to Ira Lee and Susie Reed in Pittsburg, Oklahoma.

Hershel was a devoted christian and family man. He was saved in 1961 and began preaching soon thereafter. He became Pastor of his first church in Rufe, Oklahoma while attending seminary and has served as pastor in churches in Texas, Missouri and Montana.  He was serving as interim pastor at Clayton Avenue Baptist Church in Hugo at his time of passing. Hershel was very outgoing and loved people, he was known for his hugs and words of encouragement.  He worked for many years at Kiamichi Baptist Assembly and worked hard in supporting the Madill Girls Home.  In his free time Hershel loved being outdoors, hunting for deer and loved running bird dogs.  Although he had a part of leading many people to Christ, he felt that his most important accomplishment was leading his family to Christ.

Hershel is preceded in death by his father Ira Lee Reed and mother Susie (Hornbeck) Reed; brothers Virgil, Lewis, Ted, and Jim Reed; sisters Orlena Murphree, Imogene Fennell Leverett, and Yvette Weaver; grandson Dustin Reid.

He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife of 61 years Wilma of the home; son Aaron Reed and wife Vonda of Antlers; daughter Ladonna Ried and husband Kenneth of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren David Reed and wife Tammy of Springtown, Texas, Scott Reed and wife Kanda of Lufkin, Texas, Caleb Reid and wife Lacey of Ft. Worth, Texas, Hayley Drake and husband Ben of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kenny Reid; great-grandchildren Hannah Reed, Hayden Reed, Molly Reed, Colbie Reid, and Lane Reid, as well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will include David Reed, Scott Reed, Caleb Reid, Ben Drake, and Hadyen Reed.

Honorary pallbearers will include his nephews.

Family night will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Burkhart Funeral Service of Antlers from 6-8 p.m.

Services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at The First Baptist Church of Antlers at 2 o'clock p.m. with brother Aaron Reed and Otis Cayton officiating. Interment will be held at Antlers City Cemetery under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service of Antlers. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make donations to Kiamichi Baptist Assembly, donations can be sent to P.O. Box 9 Talihina, Oklahoma 74571.
