Eva Rosanna Stephens Garrett

Olney ~ Eva Rosanna Stephens Garrett began her life's journey, April 13, 1920, in the rural community of Olney, in north central Texas. She was the first born, of nine children born to the late Grady Terrell and Alice Ethel Wacker Stephens. As the oldest child, she helped with the chores around the home and cared for her siblings. After graduation from Olney High School, she worked at Perkins & Timberlake Department Store in Olney. It was during this time she was introduced to a young man, Garland F. Garrett. They were united in marriage March 1, 1941, at the Christian Church at Waurika, Oklahoma, by pastor G. Lyle Smith. Ten and a half months later, he was called to war and gone four years.
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother & grandmother, she was very organized and neat. She enjoyed sewing for herself and her daughter Kay, was a wonderful cook, and active in the community while her daughter was growing up. Her husband's job required that they live overseas in the Republic of Singapore, Japan where they lived in the penthouse of the Hyatt Hotel. While in Singapore she was a member of the American Women's Club. They also lived in the Netherlands and Great Yarmouth, England, which was 50 miles from where her family originated from.
In 1970 they returned to the McAlester, OK, where she still maintained her residence. She and Garland were members of the First Baptist Church at Fort. Smith, Arkansas. After Garland's death in November of 1989, she began visiting with her daughter in Germantown, TN. On Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House at Collierville, TN., at the age of 97, God called Eva home. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Clifton and husband Otto Clifton, Jr. of Germantown, TN., two grandchildren, Otto Clifton III and wife Kendra of Alpharetta, GA., Garrett Clifton and wife Sonja of Collierville, TN., four great grandchildren, Zachary Dane, Jackson, Degen & Rylan Clifton; two brothers, Jerry Stephens and wife June of Keller, TX., Grady Stephens, Jr. and wife Barbara of Tulsa, OK., two sisters, Marjorie Botkin of Olney, TX., and Joyce Stephens of Keller, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, her grandson, Gregory Dane Clifton, one brother, Brandon Stephens and three sisters, Maxine Martin, Jean Tighe & Barbara Stephens.
Graveside services were Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Restland Cemetery in Olney Texas. Arrangements by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Brinkley, AR. Guestbook/obit www.bobnealandsons.com
