Dorothy Jean Stone Jones passed Sunday, July 7, 2024 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She was 82. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Dorothy was born October 5, 1941 in Graham, Texas to Jim V. and Doris Wheeler Stone.

Survivors include her loving husband Willie Jones of Megargel; sons Chuck Vaughn (Ardell) of Poland Spring, Maine and Justin Hughes of Archer City, Texas; daughter Vicki Vaughn Brumley of Meers, Oklahoma; step-children Wes Jones & Teresa Nixon of Flower Mound, Texas. She had 4 grandchildren, Josh Vaughn (Maria), Kendall Vaughn (Shelly), Brittni Brumley, and Garrett Brumley (Maggie). She had 2 great grandchildren, Miriam Margaret Brumley and William Jones Brumley. Many loving pets; cats Maxine, Miss Kitty, Sambo, Tiger, Tuxedo & Bullet; dog Lucy; and chicken Miss Chick and any stray that would venture up, she always had plenty for them too.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Patricia “Trish” Buckalew; two brothers, Tom Stone and Jimmy Stone.

She married Willie Jones on March 10, 1979, in Olney, Texas. They later moved to Megargel, Texas. She worked a variety of office jobs throughout her life, but finished up her career as the school secretary in Megargel, Texas until it closed. She loved her time there and made many friends with the staff and students alike. She spent her retirement enjoying time with her husband, and loving on her animals, which were such a comfort to her as her health began to fail. She also enjoyed visiting and facetiming with here great grandchildren these last few months.

Memorials in her honor may be made to PETS Clinic of Wichita Falls, Texas, the Megargel Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Healing Hands of Wichita Falls, Olney Hamilton Hospital and United Regional who went above and beyond to take care of her. Also thanks to the Megargel Fire Department for checking on Pawpaw during this time. We will never forget their kindness.

And as Dorothy would want to remind everyone, “Please, spay and neuter your pets!”
