Arville Kunkel

Olney ~ Arville Kunkel, age 89, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017, surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas, with Rev. Sean Reeves, pastor, officiating. Interment followed at the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Arville was born on August 17, 1927 in Archer County, Texas to the late Adolph Henry Julius Kunkel and Frieda Marie (Wittenben) Kunkel. He attended Hardin College in Wichita Falls until he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country proudly during World War II. He was a retired Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal service and had carried the mail in Olney for 28 years. Arville was a lifetime resident of Olney and a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he served on numerous Church Boards. Arville loved to farm and ranch and grow a large garden. He also loved his farm animals. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Ruby Lee Kiesling.

Arville is survived by his children: Donnie Kunkel and wife Brenda of Olney, Texas, Nancy George and husband Rhonell of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sharon Finke and husband Charlie of Pottsboro, Texas, and Sandra McCommis of Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren: Chrystal Upton and husband David, April Dorman and husband Kelly, Nicholas Kunkel and wife Stacie, Riley Kunkel, Hannah George, Charity Gilmore and husband Mike, Keenan George, Justin Wiesen, Matt Wiesen, Wess Wiesen, Johnny Baker and wife Michelle, Paul Lowell and Cara Lowell; nineteen great-grandchildren: Madison Whitlow, Chloe Whitlow, Skylar Urbanek, Ian Dorman, Lane Dorman, Hadley Kunkel, Brennyn Kunkel, Ryker Kunkel, Kooper Gilmore, Mason Gilmore, Sam Gilmore, Kelsie Wiesen, Clara Wiesen, Kodi Wiesen, Jared Baker, McKenzie Baker, Chandler Lowell, Trey Lowell, Dalton Lowell; a special niece, Sharon Ann McComas, along with niece and nephews, Renee Kiesling, Robert Kiesling and John Kiesling; special family member, Sanford Heard; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
