City to Seek Bids for Waste Contract

The City of Olney will test the market for municipal trash service as its current agreement with Waste Connections approaches expiration.

Mayor Rue Rogers told the City Council Sept. 14 that City Administrator Andy Wolfe is preparing a request for proposals that will be sent to potential waste-collection companies.

The current contract expires at the end of February 2027, meaning a new agreement would take effect March 1. Officials said the City should begin the bid process well before expiration so the Council has time to review companies, prices and service options without creating an interruption in collection.

No company was selected and no service change was approved at the Sept. 14 meeting. The Council will consider the proposals after bids are received.

The bidding process will allow officials to compare the cost and terms of continuing with Waste Connections against any competing offers. Details such as collection schedules, carts, bulk pickup, disposal charges and rate adjustments are expected to become clearer when the proposal documents and bids are presented.

Residents should continue using the existing Waste Connections service unless the City announces a change, city officials said.
