There’s No Place Like Newcastle Homecoming

There was no place like home in Newcastle last week as Bobcat fans followed the yellow brick road through a Wizard of Ozthemed Homecoming Week filled with school spirit, floats, football, and tradition.

Students and community members turned out Wednesday, Sept. 2, for Newcastle ISD’s annual Homecoming Parade, which wound through town before returning to the school for a spirited pep rally.

Following the pep rally, Newcastle seniors, students and community members took part in another Homecoming tradition, leaving their marks on the roadway in front of the school by spray-painting their names, messages and colorful designs.

Homecoming festivities were scheduled to culminate Friday, Sept. 4, when the Bobcats took on the Guthrie Jaguars under the Friday night lights in Newcastle’s new stadium.

This year’s Homecoming Queen nominees were Kenzie King, Camren Mallory, Rae’lyn Bennet and Kinzee Forbus. Homecoming Hero nominees were Keegan Voyles, Keyton Newland, Cooper Clayton and Rylan Hinojosa.

Brentley Bearers and Kirby Chenault were selected as coronation assistants and were scheduled to carry the crowns during the Homecoming ceremony.

The Bobcats entered the Homecoming matchup with a 0-1 record as the young football season got underway.

Newcastle returns home Sept. 11 to take on Gold-Burg for Youth Night at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats then travel to Crowell on Sept. 17 for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Memphis Cyclones.
