Olney Nonprofits Raising Funds for Texoma Gives This Week

Olney residents will have plenty of ways to eat, shop, bid and give for a good cause as local nonprofit organizations join forces for Texoma Gives on Thursday, Sept. 3.

This year, Olney’s participating organizations are largely going it alone, organizing their own fundraisers and activities to encourage residents to support the community institutions that provide education, food, emergency services and assistance to local families throughout the year.

The Olney Community Library and Arts Center will mark Texoma Gives with an auction of homemade baked goods and other treats. Supporters can bid in person starting at 9 a.m., through the library’s Facebook page or by calling the library and placing a bid, Library Director Lori Cox said. The Library also has posted a QR code to make donations directly.

The Refuge Christian Community Center will make it possible for residents to support Texoma Gives from breakfast through lunch.

The Refuge will begin serving breakfast burritos at 6 a.m., giving early risers a chance to grab breakfast while supporting the community center. It will follow that with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the meal offered for donations.

The Olney Education Foundation is adding a sweet afternoon stop to the Texoma Gives schedule.

The Foundation will serve homemade ice cream from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at its storefront at 109 W. Main St. Residents can stop by for a sweet treat while learning more about the Foundation and supporting its work on behalf of Olney students and educators.

Other organizations are extending the celebration into the weekend.

House of Mercy Enterprises will hold a yard sale Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4-5, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 308 W. Main St. Proceeds will support the organization’s work in Olney, including its programs for people working to rebuild their lives.

Keep Olney Beautiful also will continue its Texoma Gives fundraising on Sept. 4 with a raffle built around one of Olney’s favorite fall traditions — football. The organization will raffle a gameday package as part of its fundraising efforts.

The Olney Volunteer Fire Department also is participating in Texoma Gives and will accept donations to support the volunteer firefighters who protect Olney and surrounding areas.
