Main Street Construction to Last Thru Mid-September

Olney motorists should expect lane closures and delays along Main Street for the next several weeks as the Texas Department of Transportation begins a major resurfacing project through town.

City Administrator Andy Wolfe said TxDOT contacted him last week to advise the city that crews plan to begin work on Main Street on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The project will involve milling off approximately one to two inches of the existing pavement before laying down a new surface, Mr. Wolfe said. The work will extend along Main Street through Olney and is expected to take about three weeks.

During the project, TxDOT will shut down lanes as crews move along the roadway, which could cause temporary traffic backups and affect access to businesses and other properties along Main Street.

Mr. Wolfe asked residents and motorists to be patient while the work is underway and to use extra caution when driving through construction areas.

The Main Street project comes as TxDOT also began work this week on Loop 132 in Olney.

The simultaneous road projects could mean additional construction traffic and changing traffic patterns around town during the next several weeks.

Drivers should watch for construction crews, equipment, lane closures and traffic-control signs and allow additional time when traveling through the affected areas.

Once completed, the Main Street project will provide a newly paved driving surface through the center of Olney.
