Olney Country Club Shows Off Upgrades at CEMCO Inaugural Golf Tourney
The Olney Country Club’s ongoing makeover was on full display June 27-28 as golfers converged on the course for the inaugural CEMCO Invitational, a sold-out tournament that highlighted both the club’s present success and its ambitious future.
Hosted by CEMCO, an Olney- based cement batch plant manufacturer with a global footprint, the first annual tournament drew a full field of 32 three-person scramble teams, filling the course for two days of competition, fellowship and celebration.
“It was a huge success,” said Olney Recreation Association President Landon Rowe, who oversaw the fundraising and upgrades to the golf course. Mr. Rowe credited dozens of volunteers, along with Olney Country Club employees, for the countless hours spent organizing the event and preparing the course.
The tournament also served as a showcase for nearly $1 million in improvements transforming the country club into one of the area’s premier golfing destinations.
Golfers enjoyed newly completed concrete golf cart paths winding throughout the course, making play more accessible while improving the course’s appearance. Other planned improvements include renovations to the clubhouse, upgrades to the tennis courts and the addition of a new water feature that will enhance the appearance and challenge of the course.
Golf course architect Trey Kemp recently visited Olney to evaluate the next phase of improvements, including the possible addition of bunkers, expanded practice facilities and other enhancements designed to elevate the playing experience.
The transformation has been made possible through generous contributions from Carla Perry, Mace and Celeste McClatchy, Air Tractor, Tower Extrusions, The Perry Foundation and CEMCO.
Off the course, tournament participants gathered Saturday evening for a dinner catered by Craig Peters of Seymour. The menu featured fried fish, hush puppies, frog legs, Rocky Mountain oysters, an assortment of side dishes and homemade desserts, giving golfers an opportunity to relax and socialize after a day on the links.
Organizers said the inaugural CEMCO Invitational has laid the foundation for what they hope will become one of Olney’s signature annual sporting events.
