Storyteller Nick Waters Debuts New Tale at OCLAC

Storyteller Nick Waters returned to the Olney Community Library and Arts Center with a new tale, complete with a cast of vivid and unexpected characters. For a few moments, Mr. Waters had his audience convinced he was simply a milkman.

Dressed in a crisp white uniform from the 1930s, Mr. Waters stepped into character before revealing that the milkman was only a brief stop in the remarkable life of the man whose story he had come to tell.

That man was Clarence Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck and dozens of other beloved cartoon characters. Through colorful storytelling, authentic props, and period costumes, Mr. Waters traced Nash’s unlikely journey from ordinary working man to becoming one of the most recognizable voices in entertainment history.

Children and adults alike sat spellbound as Mr. Waters shifted between narration and character, bringing history to life with the theatrical style that has earned him the name “The Storyteller.”

Last summer, Mr. Waters appeared at OCLAC not as a milkman, but as a cowboy from the early 1900s. Wearing handmade clothing, boots, and a cigar-roll hat patterned after the era, he remained in character while recounting the true story of Louis “Bud” and Temple Abernathy.

Whether portraying a frontier cowboy or introducing audiences to the man behind Donald Duck’s unforgettable voice, Mr. Waters has developed a unique way of making history feel immediate and personal. His performances blend education with theater, leaving audiences of all ages entertained while discovering stories they may never have heard before.

Mr. Waters’ performance was the latest event in OCLAC’s summer schedule, which included the annual pet show, a reading contest, LEGO days, and guest shows, to name a few.
