OVFD Knocks Down Shed Fire on S. Ave F

Smoke rising above a South Avenue F neighborhood on May 18 drew a rapid response from Olney police, EMS, and firefighters after a storage shed behind a mobile home caught fire.

Emergency crews were dispatched at around 2 p.m. Monday, May 18, after residents spotted smoke coming from the area near South Avenue F and Grove Street, officials said.

Firefighters found a storage shed fully involved behind a yellow mobile home at 306 S. Ave. F, Olney Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jason Pack said. The fire destroyed the shed and its contents, including furniture and household items being stored inside.

The structure was a total loss, Mr. Pack said.

Mr. Pack said there was no indication that electricity had been run to the shed, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

No injuries were reported.

“There were people at home at the time, but the police had gotten everyone out,” Mr. Pack said.

The fire was confined to the shed and did not spread to the nearby mobile home or its attached carport, he said.

Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and a half, extinguishing hot spots and ensuring the blaze had not spread.
