OHS OAP Advances to Bi-District

Olney High School’s One Act Play cast is headed to the next round of competition after advancing out of district with its performance of Suite Surrender.

The OHS troupe earned a spot in the bi-district competition, which will be held next Thursday in Haskell, following strong individual and team performances at the District 9AA contest.

Several Olney students received individual honors.

Ava Stewart and Will Caffey were named honorable mention all-star cast, while Jackson Spurlock-Fenner earned a place on the all-star cast.

Behind the scenes, Pedro Gonzalez was recognized with a technical award for lighting, highlighting the production’s strength not only on stage but in its technical execution.

The group performed Suite Surrender, a comedy by playwright Michael McKeever, which follows two rival actresses forced to share a hotel suite during a wartime performance — a situation that quickly spirals into chaos.

Advancing to bi-district marks another step forward for Olney’s theater program, which continues to build momentum in University Interscholastic League competition.

The cast and crew will now prepare to compete against top advancing schools from across the region as they take the stage in Haskell next week.
