Cubs, Bobcats Compete at Munday Relays

The Olney Lady Cubs captured first place overall in the girls’ division at the annual Munday Relays, while the Olney Cubs boys team finished third, highlighting a strong day on the track and in the field for Olney athletes. Competitors from Olney High School and Newcastle High School traveled to Munday for the meet and returned with numerous top finishes and personal bests.

The Lady Cubs powered their way to the team title behind several standout performances. Hallee Craven of Olney took first place in the 100-meter dash and also earned second place in the high jump. Teammates Bradi Bowers and Anastasia Vasquez dominated the hurdles, with Bowers taking first place in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, followed closely by Vasquez in second place in both events.

The Olney girls also secured first place in the 4x100-meter relay, with the team of Mackenzie Berngen, Bradi Bowers, Anastasia Vasquez and Hallee Craven crossing the line ahead of the competition.

In field events, Katy Rosales of Olney won the long jump, while Oaklan Hopkins finished third.

Newcastle athletes also turned in strong performances on the girls’ side. Camren Mallory placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 300 hurdles. Distance runners Allison Melton and Greenleigh Moore of Newcastle delivered consistent finishes, placing second and third respectively in both the 800 meters and the 1600 meters.

On the boys’ side, Olney’s Jaxxon Laurent led the Cubs with a strong showing in the distance races, taking first place in the 800 meters and second place in the 1600 meters, along with a third-place finish in the 3200 meters.

In sprint events, Newcastle’s Keegen Voyles captured first place in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Olney’s Juan Castillo placed second in the 400 meters, while Newcastle’s Bryce Moulder finished third in the 800 meters.

The Olney boys relay team of Kyle Stewart, Juan Castillo, David McCarson and Domonique Collins earned second place in the 4x100 relay.

In field events, Olney’s Kanin Beavers claimed first place in the discus, while Newcastle’s Jayden Hemby placed third. Domonique Collins added a thirdplace finish in the long jump. Newcastle’s Rylan Hinojosa finished third in the 300-meter hurdles.

With the Lady Cubs taking the overall girls’ title and the Cubs finishing third in the boys’ standings, the meet showcased strong performances from both Olney and Newcastle athletes.

Well done to all competitors and coaches, and congratulations to those setting new personal records and finishing in the top three.
