County Jailer Arrested For Bribery, Conspiracy

A Young County jailer was taken into custody in early December as part of an ongoing criminal investigation that has since been turned over to the Texas Rangers, according to the Young County Sheriff ’s Office.

Sheriff Travis Babcock said in a written statement that the investigation began Dec. 1. A correctional officer was taken into custody on Dec. 4, though no further details were released because the investigation remains active.

“The Texas Rangers are assisting,” Sheriff Babcock said.

Jail records identify the officer as 39-yearold Lori Ann Taylor of Olney. Ms. Taylor was arrested on charges of bribery and engaging in organized crime. She later posted bond totaling $150,000 and was released from custody, according to jail records.

According to an arrest affidavit, Ms. Taylor is accused of receiving money in exchange for arranging with inmates to bring contraband into the Young County Jail.

The affidavit alleged Ms. Taylor worked with at least seven individuals, some of whom were incarcerated at the time, to facilitate the delivery of contraband into the jail.

“Evidence shows that the defendant engaged in communications and arrangements with these individuals to facilitate the delivery of contraband in violation of her official duties as a jailer with the Young County Sheriff ’s Office,” the affidavit states.

Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, a spokesman for the Texas Rangers, said the agency had no comment, as the case is under investigation. An attorney or representative for Ms. Taylor could not be reached.
