Olney Chamber’s Halloween Festivities Draws Spooktacular Crowd
Main Street in Olney was transformed into a scene straight out of a storybook Friday night as hundreds of costumed children, parents, and even a few festively dressed dogs packed downtown for the Olney Chamber of Commerce’s annual Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat event. Witches, superheroes, pi- rates, and princesses darted between decorated trunks as local businesses and organizations handed out candy and showed off their creative Halloween displays. The smell of popcorn and the sound of laughter filled the cool autumn air as families from Olney, Megargel, and Archer City joined in the fun.
“We were thrilled with the amount of people in the community who showed up for Trunk or Treat,” said Kimberly Smith, director of the Olney Chamber of Commerce. “It was one of our biggest ever.”
Mrs. Smith said the event’s growing popularity may be tied to its consistency. “I really do feel like it’s because we have been consistently having it on Halloween,” she said. “People know now and that’s why we don’t want to change it.”
The Trunk or Treat contest once again brought out the community’s creative side.
First place went to Olney Interbank for their nostalgic Sandlot-themed display.
Second place was awarded to Tower Extrusions for Tower Story, a clever twist on the beloved Toy Story films Third place went to the Olney Police Department, whose cheerful “Bee Kind” entry encouraged sweetness beyond just the candy.
Honorable mention went to Brazos Communications for their outof- this-world “Galaxy” trunk.
