Olney Nonprofits Host Events For Texoma Gives
Today marks the final Texoma Gives fundraiser, and several Olney nonprofits are holding events at their locations to thank donors and celebrate the community’s generosity.
Donors can participate by visiting texomagives. org and selecting the nonprofit they wish to support. Each of Olney’s organizations has outlined specific projects for support this year: Senior Cub Center: Director Angela Lockard said the center hopes to raise $10,000 for a new steam table, nugget ice machine, storage shelves, and affordable meals for low-income seniors.
At noon, the Senior Cub Center will kick off Senior Center Month and Texoma Gives with live testimony from clients, children of clients, and board president Valorie Mahler.
The Senior Center has invited the City Council and administrators to share in the ways the Center impacts the lives of seniors and the community. To give directly, visit www.olneyscc.org and click the donation button.
Olney Volunteer Fire Department: Fire Chief Clint Pulliam said their $10,000 goal will fund repairs to the department’s water truck and brush rigs.
Olney Community Library and Art Center: Director Lori Cox is seeking $8,000 for the library’s first major facelift since 1979, including shelving, furniture, flooring, paint, and a glass divider to improve shared use by students and the community.
The library will hold a dessert and baked goods auction on its Facebook page from noon to 6 p.m.
Olney Education Foundation: Chairman Kelly Mahler said the foundation hopes to raise $10,000 to $15,000 to support local students. Donations may be given online, mailed to P.O. Box 68, or dropped off between 9-11 a.m. today at OEF’s new Main Street office, where refreshments will be served.
House of Mercy: Preston and Trena Crow set a $20,000 goal to support the End of Payne program, which assists clients in obtaining documents and resources needed for employment and housing after rehabilitation.
The Refuge: Co-directors Kristy and Rodney Nantz will host a community breakfast and lunch at the center, serving burritos in the morning starting at 6 a.m. and pulled pork sandwiches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funds will support after-school programs, meals, classes, camps, and daily operations.
