OEDC Appoints New Members
The Olney Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) has recommended three community members to serve on its board of directors, including two returning members and one newcomer who will step in for a departing board member.
Incumbents Phil Jeske II and Rick Turner were nominated for additional terms on the board, continuing their ongoing work to support business growth and development in Olney.
Board member Kelly Mahler will not return, as he has accepted a position on the Olney Independent School District Board of Trustees, stepping in to fill the seat left vacant by Craig Mahler, who is moving out of the district.
Mr. Mahler previously served on the school board for nine years, from 2006 to 2015, and was approached by district officials to return and serve the final year of the unexpired term. The OISD board appointed him unanimously at its April 28 meeting, choosing to avoid the cost of holding a special election.
In Mr. Mahler’s place, the OEDC board has recommended Jackie Voyles, a well-known local entrepreneur and co-owner of Olney Auto Tire & Truck Service and the newly opened Old Time Cafe on Main Street.
The Olney City Council is expected to vote on the nominations at its June 23 meeting. If approved, the board members will begin or continue their service immediately.
