Young County okays courthouse lease

County Commissioners ratified a contract to lease the Olney sub-courthouse from the Olney Economic Development Corporation and got an update on the 100-year-old building’s upgrade from OEDC executive director Tom Parker.

Mr. Parker said an environmental study of the old building revealed no lead paint or asbestos, and work can commence on replacing the windows by the end of this month. The ductwork for the new central heating and cooling system also will be completed by the end of February, he said.

The OEDC found money in its budget to pay for new flooring in the hallway and new front and back doors that will be more architecturally relevant, Mr. Parker said.

“By the end of February, it will be a completely different environment,” he said. “It will go back to looking like it did in 1926.”
