I went on a trip without my cell phone

Our group was headed to south Texas for a pleasant three-day trip. About a hundred miles down the road I reached for my phone…it was not there! PANIC! Then I realized that I had accidentally left it on the lamp table at home! I immediately felt lost and unconnected to my family, and disconnected from the world!

The world is so connected by the cell phone these days, we think we can’t live without our phone. Well, I did survive the trip, but of course others had their phones, so I was able to connect to my family to let them know that I was living in never, never land for a few days without a phone.

Just think about days gone by when there was no contact with family and friends for many days when you were away…just telephone pay booths when absolutely necessary.

It was not that long ago, traveling overseas, when we actually had to use a pay booth to call home. Unlike these days when we are in direct contact with family no matter what part of the world we are in. I n the days of the phone booth, you had to talk to the operator, and have the correct amo u n t of money in your pocket to deposit in the slots when the operator told you the amount…and that would be with coins.

When I was growing up, we had one wall phone in the hallway. We had to speak to the operator, and give her the number you were wanting to call.

When I married, we lived outside of town, and had a wall phone that rung with 1 long, and 2 short rings to indicate that the call was for us, as we had to share the line with two other families.

As time went by we had a desk phone and a line to ourselves. It was still years until we had access to a cell phone, like the bag car phone, and finally the small flip phone.

Of course the new iPhone and the excellent camera that comes in it is so amazing. Hold on… the world just keeps spinning faster!
