Olney woman pleads in baby death

Jasmine Alexis Kay Smith, 28, of Jack County, accepted a plea deal for three years of deferred adjudication community supervision following the death of her 8-month-old infant, who suffocated in her RV in Olney.

The agreement, reached on Oct. 29, requires Ms. Smith to comply with 39 conditions, including abstaining from alcohol and drug use, community service, and attending substance abuse treatment.

On March 29, 2023, Olney police responded to an emergency call at Over Yonder RV Park, where Ms. Smith was found holding the unresponsive child.

She initially told authorities that the baby had been in a bassinet, but investigators found that the infant was likely sleeping in bed with her and became trapped between the bed and the wall, leading to suffocation.

Texas Rangers noted that the child had indentations on its head, potentially caused by a wooden bow in the bed area.

Child Protective Services had an open investigation into Smith’s family at the time, and her other three children had previously been removed from her custody.

Authorities emphasized the dangers of co-sleeping with infants, underscoring the tragic nature of this case. Smith was arrested in November 2023 and charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Olney Man Indicted for Solicitation of Minor, Promotion of Prostitution

Jordan Grayson, 30, of Olney, was indicted by a Young County grand jury on charges of solicitation of a minor under 14 and promotion of prostitution, stemming from an incident in May 2024 involving a missing child investigation.

Mr. Grayson was initially charged with second- and third-degree felonies, but his past criminal record elevated these to first- and second-degree felony charges.

The investigation began when the parents of a missing 13-year-old girl from Wichita Falls used a phone tracking app, leading police to an Olney apartment complex on West Oak Street.

Officers located the girl unharmed and discovered she had been communicating with a man identified as “bigmikemike817” on Instagram, who was later identified as Mr. Grayson Authorities allege that Mr. Grayson transported the girl to the apartment, where she consumed alcohol, smoked marijuana, and received pills from him. Texts between the girl and Mr. Grayson allegedly referenced drug transactions and solicitations for explicit photos Police arrested Mr. Grayson on June 2, setting his bond at $1 million. However, following a bond reduction in September, he was released in early October.
