FBCO invites community to 24-hour prayer vigil

The First Baptist Church of Olney will conduct a 24-hour prayer vigil starting on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

The vigil is open to all community members who want to participate by praying or by submitting prayer requests, said FBCO prayer team leader Judy Hammond. “We are collecting prayer requests that will be prayed over for a 24-hour period.”

Mrs. Hammond said those who come to pray are encouraged to pray for an hour. “We will have all prayer requests recorded and each person will have a prayer guide listing all requests that came in,” she said. “These requests will fall under three headings: requests from community and congregation, the church and its ministries, and for spiritual awakening and the lost. If you pray for 20 minutes for these three groups, that would make your hour of prayer.”

She said community members who wish to participate do not have to sign up to pray at the FBCO sanctuary during the vigil. The church will have a host and security on hand throughout the daylong vigil.

“This is an effort to minister to the community through prayer because we believe that prayer is the expression of our faith and something we all need to be committed to doing and that we all need to do for each other,” Mrs. Hammond said.

To submit prayer requests, people should obtain prayer request cards from an FBCO congregation member or submit the requests through a website accessible through the church’s Facebook page.

“Anyone who wants to pray, you can come and pray or you can send your prayer requests to us,” Mrs. Hammond said.
